The Safety Manager is responsible for leading and driving all occupational health, safety, and environmental (EHS) activities across assigned operations and project locations within North America. This role partners closely with operations leadership, project management teams, contractors, and corporate stakeholders to ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, local, and company safety standards while fostering a proactive safety culture focused on prevention, accountability, and continuous improvement.
The Safety Manager will support manufacturing, construction, installation, launch, and operational activities throughout the United States and Mexico and will serve as a key leader in implementing world‑class EHS programs aligned with organizational objectives and customer requirements. This role requires strong field presence, hands‑on leadership, and the ability to work effectively within fast‑paced automotive and industrial environments.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities- Lead and support all Environmental, Health & Safety initiatives across assigned North American operations and project sites.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable OSHA, EPA, NFPA, ANSI, NEC, local regulatory, and company safety requirements.
- Drive a proactive safety‑first culture focused on hazard recognition, prevention, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Conduct routine site inspections, audits, risk assessments, and safety walkthroughs to identify and correct unsafe conditions and behaviors.
- Develop and implement corrective and preventive action plans following incidents, audits, and observations.
- Support and enforce contractor safety management processes, including prequalification and compliance reviews.
- Lead incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action implementation for injuries, near misses, and property damage events.
- Develop, implement, maintain, and continuously improve EHS policies, procedures, programs, and training initiatives.
- Ensure Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), Pre‑Task Plans (PTPs), permits, and safe work procedures are completed and maintained.
- Monitor and maintain safety records, training documentation, certifications, and compliance reporting.
- Support implementation and administration of safety management software platforms and digital reporting tools.
- Coordinate employee onboarding safety orientations and ongoing training activities.
- Deliver safety training, toolbox talks, safety huddles, and leadership coaching.
- Partner with managers and supervisors to reinforce accountability for safety performance.
- Provide direct field support for manufacturing launches, equipment installations, construction projects, and operational activities.
- Collaborate with operations, engineering, maintenance, HR, and project management teams to ensure safety integration into all phases of work.
- Travel regularly to facilities and project sites throughout North America.
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or related field preferred.
- Equivalent combination of education, certifications, and relevant experience may be considered.
