Location: Columbia

Mega Metal is seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Health and Safety Lead to oversee and continuously improve our health and safety programs. The ideal candidate will build a strong safety culture, ensure 100% regulatory compliance, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to mitigate risks. You will act as the primary subject matter expert, guiding the team to world‑class safety practices across our copper manufacturing operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Safety & Compliance Management:
    • Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive Health and Safety policies, procedures, and training programs.
    • Ensure full compliance with all federal, state, and local regulatory requirements (including OSHA, EPA, and DOT).
    • Lead routine facility inspections, safety audits, and risk assessments to identify hazards and implement corrective measures.
    • Manage the SDS system, hazardous waste protocols, and pollution prevention programs.
    • Administer required OSHA recordkeeping, including the OSHA 300 log, and compile reports for stakeholders.
    • Implement a Logistic Training and Certification Program.
  • Workers' Compensation & Injury Management:
    • Manage Claims:
      Oversee the end-to-end Workers' Compensation claims process from initial reporting to final resolution.
    • Liaise with Carriers:
      Act as the primary point of contact for insurance adjusters, medical providers, and legal counsel.
    • Partner with HR:
      Collaborate closely with Human Resources to facilitate smooth, safe return-to-work programs and modified duty accommodations.
    • Analyze Cost Trends:
      Track and analyze claims data to identify financial trends and implement targeted safety interventions to lower insurance premiums.
    • Lead thorough incident investigations and Root Cause Analyses (RCA) for all injuries, illnesses, and near-misses.
    • Develop, assign, and track corrective action plans to prevent reoccurrence.
    • Coordinate crisis response and emergency preparedness plans, including conducting routine fire and evacuation drills.
  • Employee Training & Culture Building:
    • Foster a robust safety-first culture by actively engaging with employees at all levels of the organization.
    • Coordinate and deliver engaging Health and Safety training sessions for new hires, contractors, and existing staff.
    • Lead the site safety committee, promoting hazard awareness and active employee participation in prevention activities.
    • Analyze Health and Safety data and track leading/lagging indicators to identify workplace trends and prioritize safety interventions.
    • Support company sustainability and environmental initiatives, including waste reduction and energy conservation efforts.
Qualifications & Skills
  • Education:

    Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Experience:

    5+ years of progressive Health and Safety experience, ideally in a heavy manufacturing, metallurgy, or industrial environment.
  • Certifications:

    Professional certifications such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM), and OSHA 30-Hour highly preferred.
  • Technical Knowledge:
    Deep understanding of OSHA, EPA, and other relevant environmental and health codes.
  • Soft Skills:

    Exceptional leadership, communication, and conflict resolution skills; ability to influence behavior and drive cultural change.
  • Computer

    Skills:

    Proficiency in MS Office, SAP, and enterprise EHS/safety management software.
Physical Demands & Work Environment
  • Ability to walk, stand, and navigate a metal manufacturing facility/job site for extended periods.
  • Occasional lifting of safety equipment or materials (up to 50 lbs).

Salary Range: $21.00 - $54.00 Per Hour DOE (Depends on Experience)
