QA/QC Manager

The purpose of this position is to provide supervision and oversight of quality performance on a single project of modest complexity or a portion of a more complex project including one or more self‑perform work disciplines, subcontracts, and vendors. The role is responsible for verification of conformance with the Austin Quality Management System and customer specifications, maintaining a good working relationship with customer representatives, engineers, vendors, subcontractors, and project management personnel.

This position reports to the Director of Quality and serves the Project Manager functionally and administratively.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities Quality Management
  • Inspect all field construction work in progress, including subcontracted work, ensuring uniformly high quality workmanship during each construction phase.
  • Document non‑conformances promptly, follow up with responsible parties, and ensure deficiencies are resolved.
  • Prepare internal and customer‑required weekly and monthly quality reports.
  • Act as liaison with customer, regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and internal departments on quality‑related matters.
  • Create and maintain documentation such as concrete break logs, weld logs, ITPs, turnover packages, etc.
  • Implement quality training programs for project personnel in conjunction with Project Managers and Superintendents.
Planning
  • Review contract documents, submittals, shop drawings, and schematics to determine project scope, materials, equipment, and develop a site‑specific quality plan and program.
  • Develop discipline‑specific Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs).
  • Lead meetings with supervision and vendors on quality performance expectations, inspection and test requirements, and customer interfaces.
  • Develop or review required submittals such as weld procedures and concrete mix designs to ensure conformance with specifications and required customer approvals.
Cost Performance
  • Eliminate rework through a timely and robust inspection process.
Scheduling
  • Coordinate inspections and quality resource requirements with the construction plan and schedule.
  • Manage scheduling of all quality inspections necessary to obtain customer acceptance of the work.
Relationships
  • Establish and maintain a good working relationship with field supervision, customer representatives, engineers, consulting firms, and other parties. Resolve problems at the lowest practical level through direct negotiation.
  • Provide administrative and technical direction to all quality personnel on site, including personnel administration and resolution of technical problems.
  • Foster and promote the training and development of subordinates through on‑the‑job training, company‑sponsored programs, and external learning opportunities such as college courses, trade seminars, and classroom instruction.

Technical Requirements
  • Minimum of 8 years of Quality Control experience in the industrial industry.
  • Certified Weld Inspector (CWI).
  • ASNT (SNT‑TC‑1A) Level II in one or more methods: PT, UTT (thickness readings), or RTI (film interpretation) preferred or equivalent education.
  • Engineering degree can substitute for some or all of CWI and ASNT certifications.
  • Civil, structural, mechanical, and minor electrical inspection experience required.
  • Auditing experience preferred.
  • Read and interpret project drawings and specifications.
