CMM; Coordinate Measuring Machines Technician

Position Summary

CMM (Coordinate Measuring Machines) Technician responsible for operating and monitoring Wenzel coordinate measuring machines in crankcase manufacturing. Role ensures dimensional, form, and position tolerance checks, performs root‑cause analysis, supports production and quality teams, and maintains accurate measurement documentation.

• Operate and monitor the Wenzel CMM during production, loading and executing existing measuring programs.
• Perform dimensional, form, and position (GD&T) tolerance checks on crankcase components per drawings and specifications.
• Conduct in‑process inspections and verify correct part setting and alignment.
• Interpret measurement results, identify deviations, perform root‑cause analysis, and initiate corrective actions.
• Read and interpret technical drawings, GD&T, and measurement specifications.
• Use hand and electronic measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges.
• Maintain and care for measurement equipment, including SAP support and documentation.
• Support production with quality sampling, process approvals, and troubleshooting basic machine issues.
• Promote a compliance culture in line with the Rolls‑Royce Code of Conduct.

• Completed vocational training as an industrial or tool mechanic, or a comparable 3.5‑year technical apprenticeship in metalworking; or 3 years of experience in mechanical, electrical, or industrial tooling in a heavy‑duty machining environment.
• Ability to work overtime and shift work; willingness to work occasional weekends.
• Authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.

• Basic experience operating a Wenzel CMM or similar, running existing measurement programs.
• Experience with AUKOM Level1/2, Quartis Basic/Advanced certifications; training on the job acceptable.
• Understanding of measurement processes, coordinate systems, machine axes, alignment, and GD&T.
• Familiarity with surface roughness and profiling instruments.
• Knowledge of OSHA safety requirements.
• Strong quality orientation, independent work style, and good interpersonal communication.
• Proficiency with PC and MS Office.
• Flexibility to pursue further qualification and deployment on other inspection equipment.
• Physical ability to lift, push, and pull 20–60lb.

• Requires good close, distance, peripheral, and depth vision.
• Shift schedule: 1st shift, Monday‑Thursday, 5:15am–4:15pm; shift work may include two or three shifts.
• May involve exposure to elements but not at disagreeable levels.
