Job Summary

Employer: Department of Drug Discovery and Biomedical Sciences (DDBS) at the College of Pharmacy, University of South Carolina (UofSC).

Position: Research technician to conduct research in Dr. Jun Zhu’s laboratory on NIH-funded projects studying mechanisms of HIV-1 infection-associated neurocognitive disorders. Duties include conducting cell culture and pharmacological assays to characterize the in vitro pharmacological profile of the human vesicular monoamine transporter (VMAT2), its mutants, and to test compounds to identify optimized probe molecules using cell-based expressing human VMAT
2. Also assist with other ongoing experiments, maintain laboratory instruments, follow lab safety, and assist with lab cleaning/organizing. Candidate should be motivated to conduct neuropharmacology research and work in a collaborative team environment.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct cell culture and pharmacological assays to characterize VMAT2 in vitro and test compounds to identify optimized probe molecules.
  • Assist with other ongoing experiments and maintain laboratory instruments.
  • Follow lab safety protocols and assist with lab cleaning/organizing.
  • Work within a collaborative team environment and support related neuropharmacology research efforts.
Qualifications
  • Successful candidates should have a bachelor’s degree in biomedical science or previous experience with the respective expertise in a research laboratory is desirable.
