Research Scientist, Postdoctoral Research Fellow, Biomedical Science
Position Summary
The postdoctoral associate will play a central role in an NSF‑funded project focused on investigating nitrogen isotope fractionation (δ¹⁵N) during ammonia (NH₃) gas‑to‑particle conversion and oxidation processes. The associate will conduct laboratory experiments, analyze isotope data, and integrate findings into atmospheric models to improve understanding of NH₃ emissions, transformations, and their role in particulate matter (PM₂.₅) formation and reactive nitrogen cycling.
Responsibilities- Perform laboratory experiments to quantify nitrogen isotope fractionation (δ¹⁵N) during ammonia gas‑to‑particle conversion and oxidation processes.
- Design and set up experiments, collect and analyze data, and compare results with existing literature.
- Analyze data from isotope fractionation experiments and integrate the findings into atmospheric models.
- Prepare comprehensive written reports, manuscripts for publication, and oral presentations to disseminate research findings.
- Mentor graduate and undergraduate students involved in the project through hands‑on training, regular meetings, and feedback on research activities.
- Doctoral (Ph.D.) degree in Chemistry, Atmospheric Sciences, Environmental Chemistry, or a related field.
- Solid background in atmospheric chemistry and isotope analysis, with relevant hands‑on experience in laboratory experiments and data analysis.
- Experience conducting and interpreting isotope fractionation experiments and integrating data into atmospheric models.
- Track record of publications in atmospheric chemistry or a related field.
- Proficiency in preparing detailed written reports, manuscripts, and delivering oral presentations.
- Strong problem‑solving skills and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
- Expertise acquired during doctoral research or through equivalent experience in the field.
