Research Scientist, Clinical Research, Research Assistant/Associate
Position Description
Contributes to, performs, or supports the University’s research initiatives. The Research Associate (R2) under the general supervision of the Principal Investigator (PI) conducts research on NIH-funded projects focusing on mechanisms underlying inflammatory diseases. Activities include flow cytometry, scRNA, spatial transcriptomics, microbiome, and epigenetic analyses, as well as bacterial identification, characterization, and sequencing data (methylation/demethylation, histone modifications, chromatin accessibility) to determine gene dysregulation in diverse tissue cells.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct laboratory research assessing inflammatory disease mechanisms.
- Perform bacterial identification, characterization, and sequencing analyses.
- Maintain detailed laboratory notebook records and present findings in group meetings and laboratory discussions.
- Publish results in a timely manner.
- Update laboratory personnel on methodologies, equipment capabilities, ongoing experiments, and future research directions.
- Assist in training other laboratory personnel.
- Doctoral (Ph.D.) degree in relevant research specialty.
- Certified in animal use and health & safety.
- Expertise in omics research (e.g., scRNA‑seq, spatial transcriptomics, microbiome, epigenetics).
- Knowledge of laboratory hazards and safety practices.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and refine methodology.
- Experience writing scientific papers and presenting research.
- Commitment to conduct research lawfully and ethically, adhering to compliance policies.
- Full Time – 37.5 hours per week.
- Work schedule may vary and is established by the supervisor; flexible to meet departmental needs.
- Staff Research Grant (SRGP) – 12‑month basis.
