Position: INTERNAL POSTING - Wildlife Biologist II
Location: Columbia

This employee will be tasked with participating in field sampling efforts associated with the Reef Fish Survey group at SCDNR and the collection of fish samples from commercial and recreational sources.

Job

Duties Include:
  • Leading or assisting with life history studies of priority species.
    • Tasks may include otolith preparation/interpretation or histological preparation/interpretation of reproductive tissue.
  • Participating as a member of the scientific party on all assigned Reef Fish Survey cruises.
  • Assisting with affiliated research projects as time permits.
  • Coordinating day-to-day SCDNR SADLS activities.
  • Supporting the Coastal Research Section, MRRI, and MRD, including assisting or leading analysis, and writing reports/manuscripts for requested deliverables.
Qualifications and

Experience:
  • A master's degree in biology, chemistry or related technical area field; or a bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, wildlife management or related technical area and two (2) years of experience relevant to the job.
  • A master's degree in biology, marine biology, or related field or a bachelor's degree in biology, marine biology, or related field and at least two (2) years experience in fisheries science.
  • Ability to work in challenging at-sea conditions during trips of up to fourteen (14) days at a time.
  • Knowledge of Southeast fish identification.
  • Experience with procurement and logistics.
  • Experience with fish life history.
  • Experience with coordinating a scientific research project.
  • Ability to swim and lift heavy objects.
  • Discipline, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently.
