What You'll Do
As a Cook, you will prepare meals that meet individual resident and veteran needs, including special events, while ensuring food quality, service, and departmental safety and sanitation.
Responsibilities include:
- Prepare all food items on menu according to pre-determined recipes.
- Follow safety and sanitation policies and procedures. This includes cleaning assignments as scheduled for cleaning and maintaining kitchen equipment.
- Follow all sanitation policies and procedures for food storage preparation and transport.
- Preparation of resident meals and checking all items to ensure meal items meet prescribed individual resident needs as directed by nursing, dietician, and or physician.
- Unload and stock all sizes and weights of food items and supplies on shelves and in the freezers and refrigerators.
- Must maintain regular attendance according to the Company’s attendance policies.
- Use tactful and appropriate communication with staff, guests, and residents.
- Adhere to uniform policy according to the Company’s policies and Employee Handbook.
- Maintain confidentiality of all pertinent resident care information to ensure resident rights are protected.
- Maintains a liaison with other department supervisors to adequately plan for dietary services/activities.
- Attend departmental and staff meetings as directed.
- Attend and participate in educational classes and on-the-job training programs, etc., as scheduled, or directed.
- Performs other related assignments as required.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Knowledge of food preparation, sanitation, and hygiene practices.
- One year of healthcare cooking experience preferred; other relevant experience or cook training accepted.
- Able to follow recipes, understand instructions in English, perform basic math, and obtain a Food Handlers Certificate.
