Summer Student Environmental Services (Full-Time Student Position)The Columbia Shuswap Regional District (CSRD) is now accepting applications for a Summer Student (Environmental Services) position based out of its Salmon Arm, BC office.
This position will assist our staff with a variety of projects related to solid waste and recycling. The role will also provide administrative and program coordination support within the department. The duties will include:
- Conducting waste audits and inspections at Landfills and Transfer Stations.
- Interacting with the public and waste haulers to promote CSRD waste reduction initiatives.
- Undertaking research on waste management programs.
- Providing the public with information on ways to reduce waste.
- Collect survey data from Landfill and Transfer Station visits.
Position Requirements
- Enrolled in an accredited post-secondary institution (full-time or part-time) in a discipline relevant to the position.
- Returning to school (full-time or part-time) at the end of the period of employment or enrolled in the co-op education program.
- Ability to work independently and in a team setting.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work variable hours as needed.
- Outgoing and excited about waste reduction initiatives.
- Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License and driver’s abstract.
- CSA approved steel toe boots required.
This union position extends from April 27 to August 21, 2026, and is subject to the provisions of the Collective Agreement negotiated between the CSRD and CUPE Local 1908. The wage for this position is $1,538.71 bi-weekly (January 2025 rates) plus 18% in lieu of all benefits.
Hours of work for this position are Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
Employees are required to show proof that they are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as a condition of employment with the CSRD prior to their start date (Policy A-84).
