Under direct supervision, the Air Quality Compliance Specialist will perform assigned inspections and evaluations for the Bureau of Regional and Laboratory Services air quality program. Develop advanced knowledge and understanding of the air quality program.
Job Responsibilities:
* Perform or participate in inspections and evaluations of the regional air quality program statewide. Conduct routine inspections of major and minor air sources for compliance with regulations and standards according to Bureau of Air Quality schedule frequencies. Submit and review reports within required time frames. Perform visible emission observations and successfully complete semi-annual smoke school activities. Provide enforcement documentation, as necessary, and participate in enforcement hearings.
* Assist with response to air complaints, as well as other regional program complaints, adhering to all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), as needed. Ensure proper and timely disposition of complaints.
* Coordinate with Central Office air laboratory in maintaining and operating ambient air monitoring/sampling network.
* Perform other duties as required, which includes, but not limited to, attending periodic staff meetings and training.

Minimum and Additional Requirements
* An associate degree in a related technical field.
* A high school diploma or GED and two (2) years of environmental health or related experience.
* Certification in the environmental field qualifies as related experience
Note:
Degrees in a related technical field include, but are not limited to, Earth sciences, chemistry, biology, physics, soil science, environmental science, mathematics, etc.
Institutions of Higher Learning must be recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.

Additional Requirements:
* Must have valid state driver's license, and ability to operate personal and state-owned vehicles.

* Work effectively in a team-oriented environment and encourage positive working relationships with coworkers, industry, and government officials.
* Work independently in a field environment.
* Ability to successfully complete prescribed technical coursework and pass any test relevant to the position within the probationary period or trial period.
* Work in all reasonable weather conditions and access non-traditional work environments.
* May require:
* Daily travel throughout the state.
* Occasional overnight travel.
* Subject to on call or call back 24/7.
Preferred Qualifications
* Familiarity with air quality related activities and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
* Thorough knowledge of applicable state and federal air quality laws and regulations.
* Knowledge of environmental health regulations.
* Ability to prioritize and manage time effectively.
* Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
