Lieutenant - AST Agency Search Team, Columbia; RICHLAND

Job Responsibilities

• Supervise and administer the operation of the Agency Search Team.
• Conduct routine, unannounced, and/or pre‑scheduled searches/shakedowns of inmates, staff, and visitors within the confines of correctional facility living areas and/or grounds.
• Oversee the selection and training of all team members.
• Be knowledgeable of the logging and accountability process of contraband items, i.e., chain of custody and disciplinary procedures.
• Be available for recall to assist in emergency and non‑emergency situations that require additional personnel, flexible with schedule to work various time frames.
• Review and comment on all incident reports before they are submitted to the Lieutenant.
• Perform and submit all administrative duties, including leave and attendance.
• Remain thoroughly familiar with all policies governing searches, property and contraband control, visitation, etc.

Must successfully complete eight (8) weeks of SCDC basic training upon hire.

• A high school diploma and three (3) years experience in correctional, security, military, or police work to include one (1) year of supervisory experience.
• A degree in criminal justice or a related field may substitute for supervisory experience years (associate and above = 1 year).
• Must be certified by the SCDC Training Academy and successfully complete the basic supervisory course within six (6) months of entry into the position.
