Sergeant - Front Gate BRR Security Front Gate, Columbia; RICHLAND

Responsibilities

• Administer the operation of the Broad River complex main gate.
• Ensure control and security of the South Carolina Department of Corrections Broad River complex/area buildings, facilities and equipment, including access and egress from the BRC, Education Division (formerly known as the Director's house) and grounds surrounding institutions and/or divisions of SCDC.
• Supervise and verify the accuracy of scheduled visitors and functions to ensure only authorized personnel are permitted entry.
• Evaluate officers' duty performance; instruct and counsel officers in required duty performance standards.
• Ensure subordinates maintain all training and certification requirements and receive additional training, including OJT as needed or required.

Must successfully complete eight (8) weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire.

• A high school diploma and eighteen (18) months experience in correctional, security, military, or police work.
• A degree in criminal justice or a related degree may substitute for 1/2 of the required experience.
• Must be certified by the SCDC Training Academy and successfully complete the basic supervisory course within six (6) months of entry into the position.

A high school diploma and relevant experience. A bachelor's degree in a related field may substitute for the required experience.
