School Resource Officer

POSITION SUMMARY

Enforce local and state laws and county ordinances relating to public safety and welfare. Patrol assigned areas; apprehend and arrest violators; perform a variety of public service safety and security functions with a primary role of school security at the assigned school.

The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

• Provide law enforcement services for the assigned school.
• Schedule deputies for off‑duty work for school functions.
• Work with school administrators to address safety concerns.
• Conduct periodic security assessments of the school.
• Perform supportive call duty in various environments under varying degrees of stress, while maintaining a high degree of professionalism.

• Must be a certified Class 1 Officer from the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy.
• Must have School Resource Officer certification from the SC Criminal Justice Academy, or must be able to achieve certification within the specified timeframe.

• Ability to work independently, exercising discretion and sound judgment when handling confidential matters.
• Ability to perform duties with general direction, limited supervision, and self‑motivation and time management.
• Demonstrated professional etiquette and the ability to plan, organize, supervise, and instruct personnel.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively and engage well with juveniles.
