Overview

The HVAC Service and Installation Supervisor is a hands-on field leadership role responsible for overseeing HVAC service, repair, and installation work at a single branch location, with the opportunity to support additional locations as the business grows. This role serves as the licensed authority for the branch and is actively engaged in performing service calls, diagnosing and repairing failed systems, and supporting installations, ensuring all work is completed safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with North Carolina HVAC licensing and regulatory requirements.

While in the field, this role supports responsible service-to-sales lead generation by identifying legitimate replacement or upgrade opportunities and ensuring appropriate referral to the Sales team—always in a customer-first, ethical manner.

Key Responsibilities Production, Workflow & Quality Management
  • Serve as the licensed authority for HVAC service and installation work at the assigned branch, maintaining all required licenses and certifications.
  • Perform and support daily service calls, including troubleshooting system failures, diagnosing performance issues, and completing repairs.
  • Actively participate in hands-on field labor to support service demand, emergency calls, complex jobs, or staffing needs.
  • Oversee HVAC installations, repairs, and service work to ensure quality, safety, code compliance, and manufacturer requirements are met.
  • Identify aging systems, recurring failures, efficiency concerns, or code issues during service visits and initiate qualified sales referrals when appropriate.
  • Coach technicians on proper diagnostics, workmanship standards, customer communication, and ethical referral practices.
  • Reinforce safety practices through jobsite oversight, audits, and field coaching.
  • Review job documentation, service notes, timekeeping, and material usage for accuracy and compliance.
Team Leadership, Safety & Development
  • Provide daily leadership, coaching, technical support and skills development to build a strong, scalable technician workforce.
  • Ensure crews, schedules, materials, and permits are aligned for safe and efficient execution.
  • Support technicians in addressing onsite customer questions, scope clarifications, or concerns.
  • Ensure completed installations meet company quality and customer satisfaction standards.
Administrative & Regulatory Compliance
  • Review timekeeping, job documentation, material usage, and safety records for accuracy and completeness.
  • Maintain compliance with North Carolina HVAC licensing, permitting, inspection, and documentation requirements at all times.
  • Support operational reporting, job costing inputs, and equipment inventory.
Qualifications & Experience
  • 5–8+ years of residential HVAC service, repair, and installation experience, including lead or supervisory responsibility.
  • Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting capability with hands-on repair expertise.
  • Working knowledge of HVAC safety practices, codes, and regulatory requirements.
  • Valid driver’s license with ability to travel locally.
Education & Certifications
  • H3-1, Heating Group 3 – Class I Contractor License — required; authorizes residential, commercial, and industrial HVAC work.
  • EPA 608 Certification (Universal) — required.
  • SP-PH Special Plumbing & Heating License — strongly preferred.
  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical or trade school training preferred.
  • Maintaining required licenses and certifications is a condition of employment.
