Heavy Equipment Mechanic, Diesel Mechanic, Field/Service Technician
Location: Blacksburg, South Carolina
Field-Based | Regional travel with overnight stays as required
Schedule: Normal weekday operations - With flexibility for travel, breakdowns, and emergencies
Pay: $30 - $40/hr.
We are hiring a Field Service Diesel Mechanic to diagnose, repair, and maintain heavy diesel construction equipment directly in the field. This role is critical to keeping projects moving and downtime minimal. If you’re confident working independently, troubleshooting under pressure, and supporting Caterpillar and similar equipment, this is a strong long-term opportunity.
What You’ll Be Doing- Diagnose, repair, and maintain diesel-powered heavy equipment in the field
- Service Caterpillar and other major construction equipment brands
- Troubleshoot engine, hydraulic, electrical, powertrain, and emissions systems
- Perform preventive maintenance and emergency breakdown repairs
- Complete service reports and accurately track parts usage
- Maintain service truck, tools, and on-hand inventory
- Follow all jobsite safety and operational requirements
- 3–5 years of hands-on heavy equipment diesel mechanic experience
- Strong diagnostic ability across mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems
- Valid driver’s license (CDL preferred)
- Able to work independently, travel to job sites, and stay overnight as needed
