EVT Technician Job Purpose/Scope

This position will perform routine and non‑routine maintenance, diagnostic and repair work on emergency apparatus which adheres to Transdev standards. Performs work under minimal supervision. Handles more complex problems and can resolve independently. All work is performed with a commitment to safety. May mentor or provide informal guidance to Technician I and/or Technician II.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure vehicles are maintained and safe for our customers by performing limited repairs with minimal supervision on both basic and complex maintenance such as replacement of light bulbs, fuses, lenses, wiper blades, belts, hoses, batteries, check fluid levels, change fluids and filters and lubricate components. Will adhere to NFPA, DOT, federal, state and laws and regulations.
  • Perform mechanical repairs under minimal supervision including the repair of brakes and brake inspections, engine tune‑ups, suspensions, drive trains, transmission clutches and other repairs.
  • Maintain records of all maintenance work completed on vehicles including parts and supplies used. Ensure that work orders are completed properly and accurately. Maintain parts usage records and order repair parts from designated suppliers.
  • Diagnoses and performs accurately all phases of vehicle and equipment repair under minimal supervision. May perform diagnostic tests utilizing a computer and manufacturer’s software to determine mechanical defects.
  • Lead preventative maintenance (PM’s), safety maintenance inspections and annual maintenance inspections at prescribed intervals of time and usage.
  • Remove, overhaul and reinstallation of mechanical components with minimal Tech in Charge supervision.
  • Notify supervisor of potentially dangerous equipment and corrective action taken.
  • Evaluates completed work prior to release and seeks approval where required.
  • Leads road calls and emergency services as necessary.
  • Adhere to Transdev standards, policies and procedures.
  • Moves vehicles safely between job and work area.
  • Repair and maintain all shop equipment.
  • Other responsibilities as requested or required.
Education
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred; vocational or technical certification in vehicle repair (preferred)
  • ASE/EVT Certification preferred. Must participate in ASE testing program (expected to have 2 ASE and 2 EVT certifications within 12 months of hire). Training and training material provided. Company sponsored testing.
Experience
  • Intermediate to advanced mechanical aptitude and 5 years of automotive or diesel repair experience (preferred) or equivalent education and experience.
  • Adhere to standards set by state DOT for motor vehicle inspections and safety standards.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Advanced problem‑solving ability.
  • Excellent customer service skills and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Maintain an organized shop and clean work environment.
  • Regular, predictable, full attendance is an essential function of the job.
  • Possess adequate mechanic tool inventory to complete all assigned duties and maintain it in a clean and safe manner.

Subject to a DOT drug testing and physical if applicable. DOT Regulation 49 CFR Part 40 does not authorize the use of Schedule I drugs, including cannabis, for any reason.

Physical Requirements
  • Frequently walk for long distances and on possible sloped ground or slippery and uneven surfaces.
  • Push and pull objects up to 50 pounds, occasionally throughout the workday; lift material weighing up to 50 lbs. with or without assistance; occasionally bend, kneel, or crouch to files or equipment stored at ground level.
