Location: Columbia
Performs skilled work in the installation, maintenance, and repair of air, gas, water, and waste disposal systems in areas such as water/fuel operations at McEntire Joint National Guard Base. Assists other trades with tasks, and makes emergency and general repairs and adjustments to facilities.
Responsibilities- Conducts inspections, plans layout, and installs pipe sections, tubing, and fittings using couplings, clamps, screws, bolts, cement, plastic solvent, caulking, soldering, brazing, or welding equipment.
- Installs pipe assemblies, fittings, valves, appliances (e.g., dishwashers, water heaters), and fixtures (e.g., sinks, toilets) with hand or power tools.
- Fills pipes or plumbing fixtures with water or air, monitors pressure gauges, and detects and locates leaks.
- Engages in pipe cutting, preassembly, and installation of plumbing systems or components.
- Tests circuit breakers, electrical systems, and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring of water circulation pumps, water meters, water heaters, and other equipment using testing devices.
- Maintains knowledge of all water distribution systems, backflows/cross connections, fire hydrant testing, oil-water systems, septic tanks, fuel system upkeep, and outfall watershed maintenance.
- Keeps records of work assignments based on job specifications and local building codes.
- Applies safety practices, tools, equipment, materials, and supplies used in the designated trade.
- Comprehends and follows instructions, blueprints, plans, and specifications; performs arithmetic as required; communicates effectively.
- High school diploma and extensive trades experience directly related to the area of employment.
- Knowledge of facility and infrastructural plumbing systems.
- Ability to perform heavy manual labor and lift 70 lbs.
- Knowledge of water, sanitary sewer, and storm water concepts and application skills.
- Judgment and initiative to complete routine work without constant supervision.
- Ability to work in extreme weather conditions (hot or cold); use of a scissor lift may be required for daily maintenance.
- Ability to lift, climb stairs/ladders, stoop, and bend.
- Some overnight travel or training may be required; position involves on‑call, callback, and emergency on‑call responsibilities.
