Heavy Equipment Mechanic, Maintenance Technician / Mechanic
The Heavy Equipment Mechanic must inspect, service, and maintain our range of heavy-duty construction/traffic control equipment. This mechanic is responsible for driving to various job sites across our regional territories to inspect engines and equipment, carry out service, conduct repairs, and provide routine maintenance to the construction fleet.

- Inspecting Truck Mounted Attenuator Units, and other Traffic Control Devices.
- Diagnosing Faults using computerized testing equipment.
- Adjusting equipment and replacing faulty parts.
- Repairing damaged equipment parts.
- Cleaning, lubricating, and conducting routine service on heavy‑duty vehicles.
- Performing major repair work when necessary.
- Reporting damaged or faulty equipment to management.
- Comply with OSHA safety laws and regulations.
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Certification as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic, or relevant experience.
- Understanding of computer testing technology.
- Extensive knowledge of diesel engines and construction equipment.
- Attention to detail and advanced organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently, as well as within a cross‑functional team environment.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to solve practical problems, make logical decisions, and communicate ideas.
Physical Requirements
- Sit, walk, kneel, bend, crawl, and crouch for extended periods of time.
- Ability to quickly and repeatedly adjust the controls of machines or vehicles to exact positions.
- Ability to judge the distances between you and an object, depth perception.
- Ability to respond to a signal when it appears, reaction time.
- Coordinate the use of hands, arms, and legs fully. Reach for a handle and use it to manipulate objects and materials.
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
- Vision – ability to see details at close range and details at distance (either naturally or with correction).
- Regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
- Mental and visual attention is necessary to effectively complete work tasks.
- Work outside and exposed to weather.
- Wear protective or safety equipment, i.e. safety boots/shoes, glasses, gloves, hearing protection, hard hats, etc.
- May be exposed to high levels of noise, grease, dust, and a variety of substances that are typically associated with a construction site.
