Position: Highway Maintenance Worker III - Specialized Equipment Operator (61034029) **RE-ADVERTISEMENT**
Location: Columbia

Responsibilities

  • Perform skilled manual labor and operate equipment such as mini excavator and bucket truck in bridge construction, repair, and preservation activities.
  • Grade, mow, sweep, set forms, pour/finish concrete, cut, paint, and install and place steel sections.
  • Operate specialized equipment including snooper truck and crawler.
  • Conduct bridge maintenance activities using complex saws, power tools, measuring devices, and welders.
  • Place traffic control devices and set up maintenance work zones according to the SCDOT Work Zone Traffic Control Manual and Field Guide to warn motorists.
  • Operate equipment during emergency and inclement weather operations, including availability for extended working hours or 12-hour shifts.
  • Operate heavy equipment such as lowboy truck tractor, excavator, and front-end loader.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Two (2) years of related work experience or an approved acceptable equivalence.
  • Valid motor vehicle operator’s license.
  • Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) required within six (6) months of placement.
Physical Demands

The essential functions involve bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and grasping. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. Walking for extended periods, traversing rough terrain, working in close proximity to motoring traffic, and in natural environmental hazards. May be required to work outside the normal scheduled work week, especially during inclement weather.
