Responsibilities

Operates and maintains a motorized asphalt road patcher and truck‑mounted equipment, picking up asphalt from the plant and performing roadway maintenance, including patching surface, full‑depth patching, washouts, cuts, bridge ends with hot and cold asphalt, limestone and other base materials. Operates electric and gas powered tools for base surface repairs and uses hand tools to level asphalt. Manages motorized equipment such as backhoes, steel wheels, pneumatic rollers, asphalt kettles, and tandem dump trucks for full‑depth base repairs.

Sets up traffic control according to MUTCD standards and may serve as a flagger. Performs routine sign straightening, litter and debris pick up, removal of dead animals, and preventive vehicle inspections. Acts on call for after‑hours emergencies and assists in emergency and inclement weather operations, including snow and ice removal.

Qualifications

One (1) year of related work experience or approved equivalence. Must hold a valid motor vehicle operator’s license. Must attain a Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement.

Physical Requirements

The role requires bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, grasping, and manipulating objects up to 50 lbs. Requires walking for extended periods on uneven terrain, working near traffic, and in all weather conditions. May involve work outside normal hours, including inclement weather and emergencies.
