A Senior Mechanic/Technician will lead field service operations, ensuring peak performance of forklifts and heavy machinery. The role encompasses advanced diagnostics, precision repairs, and proactive maintenance, while mentoring and coaching junior technicians to uphold operational excellence and drive industry standards forward.
Key Responsibilities- Operate from home, traveling to customer sites in company-provided van equipped with tools and diagnostic technology.
- Maintain and repair forklifts, heavy machinery, and material handling equipment across warehousing, distribution, and manufacturing settings.
- Provide on-site service with speed, accuracy, and professionalism.
- Diagnose complex mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues with precision.
- Perform high-quality repairs and preventive maintenance to maximize uptime and reduce breakdowns.
- Maintain equipment at peak performance through scheduled maintenance, inspections, and safety checks.
- Train and develop junior technicians, sharing expertise and fostering a culture of excellence.
- Set high service standards and guide newer technicians.
- Engage with clients, offering expert consultation and service recommendations.
- Maintain accurate service reports, repair logs, and work orders.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, industry regulations, and safety best practices.
Work occurs at diverse job sites with varying weather conditions including wet, humid, hot, or cold environments. The role requires frequent movement in dust and noise areas, standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, and crouching. Physical demands include lifting and moving items up to 50 lbs. Vision requirements include clear close and distant vision, color perception, and depth perception.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise- Experience:
5+ years as a mechanic/technician in material handling, heavy equipment, or automotive industries. - Technical expertise in diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and industrial machinery.
- Preferred certifications: ASE Certification in brakes, electrical, diesel, and preventative maintenance; forklift certification a plus.
- Mechanical and electrical skills: diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain complex equipment.
- Industry knowledge: familiarity with OSHA regulations, equipment compliance, and workplace safety standards.
- Problem-solving mindset: strong troubleshooting and critical-thinking to resolve issues efficiently.
- Leadership and mentorship: proven ability to train, coach, and guide junior technicians.
- Customer service excellence: outstanding communication and relationship-building skills.
- Technical proficiency: experience with diagnostic software, schematics, Microsoft Office, digital work platforms, and fleet management systems.
- Work ethic and drive: self-motivated, detail-oriented, and results-driven.
- Physical requirements:
ability to lift 50+ lbs, work in various conditions, and travel within assigned territory. - Valid driver’s license: required for company van usage.
