FUNCTION: Serves primarily as a heavy equipment operator. Ensures all programs and services are fulfilled in a manner consistent with the goals and objectives of Brays Island Plantation

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  • Understands the proper procedures of operating of the 15’ and 20’ mowers, dump truck and the front end loader loading dump trucks to the operator assigned by the Supervisor.
  • Begin cross training by the assigned operator on the front end loader, bull dozer and track hoe in the operations at the burn pile in North field to the.
  • Begin cross training by the assigned operator on the proper procedures of operating the motor grader and tree spade truck.
  • Operates the water truck to apply dust suppression on designated roads.
  • Operates the backhoe, mower, tree truck, and tractor to haul, load, dig and cut in a safe manner.
  • Maintains minor preventative maintenance on all equipment; check gauges, fluids, grease, etc.
  • Operates small power tools such as chainsaws, cut-off saws, generators, pumps and compressors.
  • Practices all company safety and OSHA regulations related to the operation and maintenance of equipment and tools.
  • May assist in landscape and facility maintenance departments as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Position involves climbing, sitting, standing, stooping, kneeling, pushing, shoving, lifting, carrying and moving objects that can weigh up to 100 lbs. This movement can occur throughout the day. Must be able to transport oneself not only to Property Maintenance, but also around the plantation.
  • Able to see well enough to read faint or partially obscured writing or printing, with corrective lenses if needed.
  • Must be able to work extended hours, days, weekends and holidays when necessary.
  • Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication and to make discriminations in sound perceiving their nature with no less than 40 db loss @ 500 Hz, 1,000 Hz, and 2,000 Hz.
  • Must possess the proper training and (as applicable) licenses necessary to operate all types of equipment, to include mowers, trenchers, trucks, backhoe, front-end loader, fork lift, and all-terrain vehicles.
  • Ability to express or exchange information by means of the spoken word.

  • Must be able to work constructively and cheerfully in an environment that may be stressful due to adversarial situations resulting from the proper performance of the department’s activities.
  • The employee may be required to participate in more than one assignment at a time with frequent interruptions, changes and delays; the employee must be able to remain focused and work effectively, efficiently and cheerfully under such circumstances.

Exposed to outside elements, including rain, wind, cold, extreme heat, and humidity.

  • The employee will be in the vicinity of site specific vegetation and native species of reptiles and mammals, subjecting the employee to possible injury from contact or bites. Proper footwear, headgear, and maintenance attire should be worn for protection.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

High school graduate or ability to obtain high school diploma or equivalent.

Knowledge:
Intermediate level of heavy equipment knowledge preferred.

Skills:

Read, speak, comprehend English enough to understand civil plans.

Experience:

One to three years experience operating heavy equipment including preventative maintenance skills.
