Job Description Position SummaryThe Wastewater Operator assists in the operation, monitoring, maintenance, and repair of wastewater treatment facilities and collection systems. This position provides hands‑on experience in wastewater treatment processes, equipment operation, laboratory testing, regulatory compliance, and plant maintenance. We are looking for a current South Carolina License operator in Physical/Chemical - A, B, C or D license to work part‑time on Saturdays or Sundays.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Assist with the operation and monitoring of wastewater treatment processes and equipment.
- Observe gauges, meters, control panels, and SCADA systems to monitor plant performance.
- Collect wastewater samples and perform routine laboratory analyses.
- Record operational data and maintain accurate logs and reports.
- Assist in adjusting pumps, valves, motors, blowers, and chemical feed systems.
- Perform routine maintenance on treatment equipment and facilities.
- Inspect treatment processes and collection system components for proper operation.
- Participate in preventive maintenance activities and equipment repairs.
- Clean plant equipment, buildings, tanks, and work areas.
- Assist with troubleshooting operational and mechanical issues.
- Respond to emergency situations, alarms, and operational upsets as needed.
- Learn and follow all state and federal environmental regulations.
- Comply with safety procedures, including confined space entry, lockout/tagout, and personal protective equipment requirements.
- Attend certification classes and complete required training programs.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Technical training in environmental science, industrial maintenance, utilities, or a related field is preferred.
- Previous experience in utilities, manufacturing, maintenance, construction, or environmental services is preferred but not required.

- Must have a current South Carolina Wastewater License - A, B, C, or D in Physical/Chemical.
- Basic understanding of mechanical and electrical systems.
- Ability to learn wastewater treatment processes and regulatory requirements.
- Ability to read and interpret operating manuals, procedures, and technical documents.
- Basic computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong problem‑solving and troubleshooting abilities.
- Ability to maintain accurate records and reports.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills.
- Commitment to safety and environmental stewardship.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb ladders, and work in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 35 pounds.
- Ability to work near mechanical equipment, chemicals, and wastewater treatment processes.
- Ability to enter confined spaces and wear required personal protective equipment.
- Ability to work occasional overtime, weekends, holidays, and emergency call‑outs.

- Exposure to noise, odors, chemicals, and varying weather conditions.
- Exposure to wastewater treatment operations and industrial equipment.
