Job Description

Must be detail‑oriented, install, maintain and repair HVAC systems. Skilled in cleaning, adjusting and repairing systems. Technician will assist the Director of Facilities/Maintenance in guiding and advising the district in selecting new equipment that provides appropriate air quality systems to meet district requirements.

Technician will be responsible for air quality systems from installation to end‑of‑life by performing maintenance and emergency repairs. Technician will also repair and maintain the district’s walk‑in refrigerators and coolers.

To be successful, safety and comfort of the district’s students and staff should be a top priority. Ideal candidates must be patient, professional, and possess excellent organizational and troubleshooting skills.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma, GED or equivalent.
  • Two (2) years experience as an HVAC service technician or certification of completion from an accredited HVAC program.
  • Willingness to attend classes related to specialized equipment.
  • Ability to work with school personnel, contractors and the public.
  • Ability to work independently in absence of an immediate supervisor.
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before small groups of employees.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables.
  • Ability to interpret written or oral instructions.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Understanding of advanced principles of air conditioning, refrigeration and heating.
  • Working knowledge of boiler systems.
  • Proficient in balancing air and water treatment systems in line with HVAC protocols.
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in reading schematics and work plans.
  • Ability to work after hours, over weekends and on public holidays with short or no notice.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the community.
  • Ability to perform duties with awareness of district requirements and Board of Education policies.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume.
Responsibilities
  • Installing, maintaining and repairing ventilation, heating and air conditioning systems and equipment.
  • Identifying maintenance risks on equipment.
  • Diagnosing electrical and mechanical faults for HVAC systems.
  • Cleaning, adjusting, repairing and performing preventative maintenance on all district systems.
  • Performing emergency repairs promptly and efficiently.
  • Providing technical direction and on‑the‑job training.
  • Keeping daily logs and records of all maintenance functions.
  • Ensuring compliance with appliance standards and the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
  • Complying with service standards, work instructions and district requirements.
  • Assisting the Director of Facilities/Maintenance with staff requests.
  • Assisting other maintenance staff with tasks unrelated to HVAC.
  • Other responsibilities and duties as required.
Terms of Employment

235 days. Salary based on level of skills and experience.

Evaluation

Performance will be evaluated in accordance with the CCSD Board's policy on evaluation of support services personnel.
