Thompson HCMS is seeking a BoP electrical helper for ongoing electrical and instrumentation project work, beginning with the Saluda hydroelectric project. The helper will work under the direction of a journeyman electrician and site supervision during installation, testing, and startup activities associated with the Units 1 and 2 governor replacement.
Job Responsibilities- Assist with installing conduit, supports, and cable tray as directed.
- Help pull, route, label, and organize power, control, and instrumentation cables.
- Prepare materials and work areas for electricians; stage tools, equipment, and cable safely.
- Assist with equipment installation and terminations under the direction of a qualified electrician.
- Help identify cables and devices from drawings and field labels; report discrepancies to the journeyman or site lead.
- Support electrical checks, loop checks, startup, and punch-list work as assigned, without independently performing tasks that require a qualified electrician.
- Keep work areas clean and organized and provide daily progress updates to the site lead.
- Follow site safety rules, lockout/tagout requirements, and instructions from authorized personnel. Do not perform energized electrical work.
- Coordinate with electricians, mechanical crews, and other trades to support the project schedule.
- Minimum Required Tool List for Top Helpers:
- 1 each 9” Side Cutters
- 2 each 440 Channel locks
- 1 each Tool Box or bag with lock
- 1 each Hack Saw and Blade
- 1 set Flat Head Screw Drivers (assortment of sizes)
- 1 each Large Phillip Head Screw Drivers
- 1 each Small Phillip Head Screw Drivers
- 1 each 9” Level
- 1 each 8” Crescent Wrench
- 1 each 10” Crescent Wrench
- 1 pair Leather Gloves
- 1 each 25’ Tape Measure
- 1 each Hammer
- 1 each Working Flash Light
- 1 each Pad and Pencil
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, climb, bend, twist, stand and reach repetitively, operate moving equipment and work in hot/cold/damp/cramped environments.
- Candidate may be required to pass a drug test and criminal background check based on job location/requirements.
- Experience as an electrical helper, apprentice, or industrial construction laborer preferred.
- Basic familiarity with electrical tools, conduit, cable installation, and safe work practices preferred.
- Ability to follow instructions, read basic labels and drawings, and work productively as part of a field crew.
- Willingness to learn industrial electrical and instrumentation work in a hydroelectric facility.
- Ability to meet site access and safety requirements, report reliably to assigned sites, and travel to future projects.
