Location: Columbia
Peer Mentor
Peer Mentors are students who support the success of students with intellectual and developmental disabilities by promoting independence, inclusion, and personal development in social engagement and independent living skills.
Responsibilities include:
- Facilitating student involvement in clubs, campus events, and recreational activities.
- Providing one-on-one and/or small group support in the development/refinement of social communication skills.
- Supporting students in navigating campus and community resources.
- Documenting student progress towards social and/or independent living goals.
- Meeting weekly with supervisor to discuss student progress.
This position is located on the Midlands Technical College Beltline Campus.
Minimum and Additional Requirements- Student at Midlands Technical College
- Good communication skills
- Interest in working with students with intellectual and developmental disabilities
- Strong teamwork and problem solving skills
Previous experience with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
