Join our team at the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (BHDD), Office of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (OIDD) where we are dedicated to providing compassionate and accessible care to our community. We are seeking a Residential Needs Program Coordinator who is motivated to help individuals and families navigate life's challenges and achieve long-term wellness.

With limited supervision, this position reviews and evaluates requests for OIDD-sponsored Residential Services to determine whether individuals meet established eligibility criteria related to circumstances that jeopardize health and safety. Assesses the presence of life-threatening situations or imminent risks to the individual's health, safety, and welfare in accordance with OIDD policy and defined qualifying circumstances. Ensures all appropriate community resources and supports have been explored and exhausted prior to recommending residential placement.

Analyzes caregiver capacity, living arrangements, and alternative support options to verify that residential services represent the most appropriate and necessary intervention. Provides thorough, objective documentation and recommendations to support timely and policy-compliant determinations regarding residential service needs.

  • Monitors OIDD Residential Service Request mailbox multiple times daily. Provides a preliminary review of all requests and ensure the required information is included and the packet is complete. Requests information missing from the packet. Updates residential service request log multiple times daily.
  • Updates residential moves in the CDSS/STS system upon receipt of notification. Updates SPM to ensure residential moves are accurately tracked. Addresses licensing issues with appropriate staff. Investigates vacancies.
  • Provides training and resources as needed to case managers and residential providers.
  • Serves as a liaison and point of contact for residential moves from ICF/IID placements and other institutional settings to waiver funded residential services by providing guidance, technical assistance, and monitoring.
  • Manages and maintains the Residential Needs List Database, Alternative Placement List, Residential Needs denials list. Prepares Residential Needs and Vacancy List for posting once per week. Shares the internal Residential Needs List with pertinent staff.
  • Participates in and performs other duties as assigned by the Program Manager.

BHDD-OIDD is a part of the state's behavioral health and developmental disabilities agency, providing services for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, mental health conditions and substance use disorders through a wholistic, streamlined and coordinated approach. OIDD assists in the planning, developing, coordinating, and funding services for South Carolinians with the severe, lifelong disabilities of intellectual disability and related disabilities, autism spectrum disorder, traumatic brain injury, and spinal cord injury and similar disability.

Minimum

And Additional Requirements

Bachelors degree in health and human services field plus three (3) years experience working within the Office of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (OIDD) system.

Preferred Qualifications

Ability to exercise judgment, discretion, maintain effective working relationships as well as interpret and apply laws, regulations, policies and procedures. Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing. Critical thinking skills and the ability to apply sets of criteria to various situations. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and moderate computer skills. Excellent organizational skills and ability to work within established time frames.

Ability to work in multiple data systems and synthesize data from those systems in order to make decisions. Ability to communicate effectively with various stakeholders. Ability to prioritize job duties.
