Job Summary

The Veterinary Services Social Worker provides clinical social work services within Clemson University College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) Veterinary Services, supporting clients, veterinary care teams, and their animals. This position offers counseling, resource coordination, and crisis support to individuals facing pet loss and grief, financial hardship, and other barriers affecting access to veterinary care. The Social Worker collaborates with veterinary professionals to address client needs, promotes access to community resources, and contributes to initiatives that support underserved and rural populations.

60% - Clinical Services:
Assess, intervene, and provide crisis intervention, grief counseling, psychosocial support, and brief therapeutic services to veterinary clients and their families; evaluate needs and coordinate referrals to community resources and support services as appropriate. Collaborate with veterinarians and healthcare teams to facilitate client decision‑making related to medical treatment, quality‑of‑life concerns, end‑of‑life care, financial challenges, and complex client situations; promote effective communication and resolution of client concerns.

Develop and deliver educational, consultative, and supportive services for faculty, staff, and students, including facilitating case debriefings, service rounds, orientations, and training related to compassion fatigue, grief, stress management, and client communication. Manage social work case activities by maintaining documentation, conducting follow‑up support, monitoring client needs, and developing educational materials, resource guides, and other tools that enhance client and family support services.

Build and maintain collaborative relationships with community organizations and support networks; facilitate support groups, outreach initiatives, and resource development efforts that strengthen access to psychosocial services for clients and community members.
20% - Educational Program Development and Curriculum Support:
Collaborate with faculty and interdisciplinary partners to design, implement, evaluate, and improve curriculum and educational programs related to psychosocial care, communication, wellbeing, and access to care. Develop educational resources and learning materials that support students, faculty, and the veterinary curriculum. Evaluate educational initiatives and recommend improvements based on outcomes and emerging best practices.
20% - Teaching and Instructional
