Location: Columbia
Assistant Athletic Trainer I (University of South Carolina)
Support the growth and development of athletes participating in a wide variety of sports. Contribute to sports program development, recruitment of athletes, care and growth of athletes’ personal, academic and professional needs, as well as their healthcare needs.
Job PurposeServe as Assistant Athletic Trainer for assigned sports. Follow the policies and procedures for the athletic training staff and facilities as established by the Senior Associate Athletics Director / Sports Medicine.
Responsibilities- Carry out methods of prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation of injuries as established by the Athletic Team Physician and Senior Associate AD / Sports Medicine.
- Work with the assigned strength & conditioning coach to ensure the proper conditioning of the student‑athletes in assigned programs.
- Provide injury reports to Head Coaches of assigned sports teams weekly or as appropriate during the off season.
- Supervise graduate and undergraduate athletic‑trainer students assigned to sports teams within the guidelines established by the Associate AD / Sports Medicine and the Director of the Athletic Training Education Program.
- Assist the Senior Associate AD / Sports Medicine with the Wellness Program.
- Provide nutritional guidance and meal‑selection assistance to student‑athletes in conjunction with the Sports Dietitian.
- Assist student‑athletes with referral and scheduling to the Mental Health Team as needed in conjunction with the Director of Mental Health.
- Participate in continuing education programs required to maintain certifications through NATA and State licensure.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Associate AD / Sports Medicine or team physician.
- Bachelor’s degree and at least 2 years of experience, or an equivalent combination of certification, training, education, and/or experience.
- Certified by the Board of Certification (BOC) and eligible for licensure in South Carolina.
- Certified by NATA; other certifications in applicable areas are encouraged.
- Master’s degree preferred.
- Strong preference for athletic‑training experience at a Division I institution working with the assigned sport.
- BOC certification (eligible for state licensure).
- NATA certification (other relevant certifications encouraged).
- Ability to maintain strict patient confidentiality.
- Ability to shift priorities and change focus quickly.
- Physical ability to carry equipment up to 25 lbs and to stand, kneel, push, pull, etc.
- Availability to attend sporting events as needed.
