QUALIFICATIONS
Has the ability to organize and supervise a total sports program.Has previous successful coaching experience in assigned sport (major sports).Assists the head coach to ensure everyone has knowledge of the technical aspects of the sport and continuously examines new theories and procedures pertinent to the field.Serves as an appropriate role model for student athletes through instruction and actions.REPORTS TO
The athletic director, who provides overall objectives and final evaluation in conjunction with the high school principals.
SUPERVISES
The assistant coach and head coach must advise, coordinate, and support a staff of high school assistant coaches and middle school coaches in conjunction with the athletic director and respective principal.
JOB GOAL
To instruct athletes in the fundamental skills, strategy, and physical training necessary for individual and team success, while promoting socially acceptable character development, self‑discipline, self‑confidence, and pride of accomplishment. To upgrade knowledge and skills through coaching clinics, observations, consultation, etc.
GENERAL
The success of athletic programs strongly influences the community’s image, requiring careful balance between community pressure for winning and objectives of sportsmanship and mental health.The position includes unusual aspects such as extended time, risk of injury, and due‑process predicaments.The intention of this job description is to give sufficient guidance; in cases not specifically covered, a coach shall exercise common sense and good judgment.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Has thorough knowledge of all athletic policies approved by the Jasper County Schools’ Board of Education and implements them by the entire staff of the sports program.Has knowledge of existing system, state, and league regulations; implements and interprets them consistently for staff.Understanding the proper administrative line of command and referring all requests or grievances through appropriate channels; aware of all relevant meetings requiring attendance.STAFF RESPONSIBILITIES
Establishes the fundamental philosophy, skills, and techniques to be taught by staff and designs conferences, clinics, and staff meetings to ensure staff awareness of the overall program.Trains and informs staff, encouraging professional growth by attending clinics as allowed by local clinic policy.Delegates specific duties, supervises implementation, and at season’s end, analyzes staff effectiveness and evaluates all assistants.Maintains discipline, adjusts grievances, and works to increase morale and cooperation.Performs such other duties which may be assigned by the athletic director or principal.Presents a positive image of JCSD at all times.ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES
Assists the head coach and athletic director in scheduling, providing transportation, and meeting requirements for tournament and special sport events.Assists in preparing for scheduled sport events or practices and adheres to scheduled facility times, coordinating with maintenance and school employees.Provides documentation to fulfill state and system requirements concerning physical examinations, parental consent, and eligibility.Provides proper safeguards for maintenance and protection of assigned equipment sites.Advises the athletic director and recommends policy, method, or procedural changes.STUDENT RESPONSIBILITIES
Serves as a mentor to each athlete, promoting the character traits of trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship.Gives constant attention to each student athlete’s grades and conduct.Provides assistance, guidance, and safeguards at all practices, games, and travel.Provides training rules and sport‑specific regulations to each participating athlete.Initiates programs and policies concerning injuries, medical attention, and emergencies.Completes paperwork on all disabling athletic injuries on proper forms and submits to the athletic office within 24 hours.Directs student managers, assistants, and statisticians.Determines…
