Position Summary
The Part-Time Litter Pickup Worker is responsible for maintaining cleanliness and environmental quality along all Chester County roads, public spaces, and designated areas by collecting and properly disposing of litter and debris. This position involves outdoor physical work, including walking, bending, lifting, and using basic hand tools and safety equipment. The role supports community beautification, public health, and environmental stewardship while working independently or as part of a small team.
Flexible hours may be required at times, and adherence to safety guidelines and proper waste handling procedures is essential.

- Collect litter, debris, and illegal dumping materials from roadways, right‑of‑way, parks, trails, and other public areas
- Perform all duties outdoors for extended periods while exposed to varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, humidity, wind, and rain
- Walk long distances and work on uneven terrain while bending, stooping, kneeling, lifting, and carrying materials up to designated weight limit of 30lbs
- Sort, handle, and properly dispose of collected materials in accordance with local waste and recycling guidelines
- Use basic hand tools and equipment such as litter grabbers, bags, shovels, and safety cones
- Follow all safety procedures, including traffic awareness, hazard identification, and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Identify and report hazardous materials, illegal dumping, or unsafe conditions to supervisors
- Work independently or as part of a team to complete assigned cleanup routes and schedules
- Maintain cleanliness and proper care of equipment, tools, and work areas
- Accurately document work completed, locations serviced, and materials collected when required
- Maintain punctuality, reliability, and professional conduct while representing Chester County in public spaces
- Comply with all applicable local, state, and federal environmental and safety regulations

- Ability to perform physically demanding outdoor work for extended periods in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, humidity, and rain
- Ability to walk long distances and work on uneven terrain while bending, stooping, kneeling, lifting, and carrying materials up to designated weight limits of 30lbs
- Basic understanding of safety practices related to traffic awareness, waste handling, and use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and adhere to established safety and work procedures
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision or as part of a team
- Dependable, punctual, and able to maintain consistent attendance
- Ability to interact professionally with supervisors, coworkers, and the public
- Willingness to work flexible or varied hours as assigned
- Ability to accurately document work activities when required
- Valid driver’s license (if operating or riding in county vehicles is required)

- Prior experience in litter pickup, grounds maintenance, public works, sanitation, or outdoor labor
- Familiarity with local waste disposal or recycling practices
