Master of Towing Vessels required to possess expert navigation skills in inland and ocean pilotage areas, exercise maritime care, and provide towing services while maintaining vessel safety and environmental compliance.
ResponsibilitiesDirect and oversee the safe operation of vessel, tow, and cargo. Supervise crew during vessel operating procedures and demurrage, ensuring company safety and environmental policies are followed.
Maintain proper and valid vessel documentation on board. Coordinate and maintain vessel maintenance with Port Engineer, keeping maintenance records up to date and ensuring overall vessel condition and upkeep.
Familiarize with specific vessel operating procedures and horsepower/tow decisions. Ensure required vessel documentation is carried aboard.
Safely direct the STEVENS TOWING COMPANY, INC. fueling procedures, ensure careful handling of fuel and other pollutants, and pursue an aggressive pollution prevention program.
Understand vessel maintenance procedures, responsible personnel, schedules, and corrective actions for deficiencies. Conduct in‑house inspections and record keeping frequently; train crew to perform these tasks and correct deficiencies.
Prepare to a tow, assemble the towing rig, inspect, maintain, and secure the tow during transit. Verify rigging adequacy and configure multiple tows for optimum sea‑keeping. Conduct a fire and boat drill at least weekly, logging each drill with date, hour, length, and time.
Enforce the Stevens Drug and Alcohol Policy; report any crew member violating the policy. Ensure safe shipboard conduct at all times.
Requirements- USCG MASTER OF TOWING VESSELS LICENSE (clearly stated on USCG document)
- Radar Certification
- STCW Certification
- TWIC Card
- Driver’s License
- First Aid and CPR certification
- Barge handling experience a must!
- Mariner applicants must be found fit for duty per United States Coast Guard or International mariner physical fitness requirements for employment.
