Responsibilities
Performs skilled manual labor and operates equipment such as excavator, backhoe, dozer, front end loader, lowboy truck tractor, motor grader, tandem dump trucks with trailers, pile driver, skid steer, large rollers (>4 tons) in a variety of activities associated with the construction, repair, and preservation of roads and bridges on the State Highway system. Operates small tools and power tools involved in bridge construction and repair including demolition, building formwork, steel beam repair, concrete spall repair, timber/steel pile repair, painting, sand blasting, and pressure washing.
Signals crane operator while performing various bridge construction/repair activities such as removing old bridge components, pile driving, and setting bridge decks. Responsible for safely rigging lifted materials and bridge components. Coordinates placement of traffic control devices for work zones according to SCDOT Work Zone Traffic Control Manual. Assists in emergency or inclement weather operations. Operates both portable tank‑mounted salt brine anti‑icing equipment and standard dump truck with snow plow attachment and sand spreader to remove snow and ice from highways and bridges.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
