This position is the Bishopville DMV Branch Office in Bishopville, SC. Responsibilities of a License Examiner I include:
- Administering road test examination in all of the following class vehicles:
- Class A:
Any combination of vehicles with Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GWR) of 26,001 pounds provided the GWR of vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds. - Class B:
Any single unit vehicle with a GWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such towing vehicle not in excess of 10,000 pounds. - Class C:
Any single unit vehicle or combination of vehicles that does not meet the definition of A or B, but that is either designed to transport 16 or more passengers including the driver or is placarded for hazardous materials. - Class D:
Passenger vehicles and all non-commercial vehicles that do not exceed 26,000 pounds gross vehicle weight. - Class E:
Non-commercial single unit vehicles and all non-commercial vehicles that do not exceed 26,000 pounds gross vehicle weight. - Class F:
Non-commercial combination vehicles that exceed 26,000 pounds gross vehicle weight. - Class M:
Motorcycles and CDL's if in a CDL Office - Determining applicant's physical and mental fitness and competency to safely operate motor vehicles.
- Administering written, oral and automated examinations to determine applicant's knowledge of laws and driving procedures.
- Performing pre-trip inspection on the general working condition of vehicle operated by the applicant.
- Examining, accepting, preparing, entering, and printing all documents required in issuing driver licenses, beginner permits and identification cards for all classes; original duplicate transfers, temporary and replacement vehicle registrations, license plates, permits and/or titles.
- Processing Motor Vehicle Registration Requests.
- Researching suspension inquiries, modifying driver International Registration Plan, registration credentials and issuing automobile dealership licenses.
- Answering customer inquiries pertaining to driver, vehicle, and registration, titling, and insurance requirements by phone in person.
- Greeting and directing customer to appropriate areas in the office.
- Collecting all requirement fees and donations for the Donate Life Fund. Reconciling and preparing individual daily report and refund request documents. Computing vehicle sales taxes and making weight adjustments to the vehicle record file.
- Receiving, coding and issuing receipts for surrendered license plates; boxing surrendered plates and completing pick up requests.
- Performing routine maintenance on equipment.
- Faxing, mailing documents, and running errands for the branch office that may include trips to the post office and making bank deposits.
Working conditions:
Road tests are conducted throughout the year in a variety of weather conditions including rain, wind, summer heat and cold winter days. Testing begins in the early morning hours and continues through the early evening hours.
Minimum Requirements:
- A high school diploma and relevant experience.
- An equivalent education and relevant experience may be accepted with prior approval.
Agency Requirements:
- A high school diploma or equivalent.
- Must have a valid South Carolina driver's license and be at least 21 years of age with one year driving experience.
- Must complete a nationwide criminal background check to include finger printing.
- Before being certified to administer CDL knowledge skill tests must complete a formal CDL test examiner trainer course and examination that includes Introduction to CDL Licensing System, Overview of the CDL Tests and Knowledge Tests.
