Akicita Federal is hiring a Dental Hygienist to deliver preventive oral health services for the Indian Health Service's Woodrow Wilson Keeble Memorial Health Care Center in Sisseton, South Dakota. In this role, you will provide direct care to a Native American community, helping improve long-term oral health outcomes for patients who rely on this critical federal healthcare program. We are filling two positions and are looking for dedicated clinicians ready to make a meaningful impact.
Responsibilities- Perform routine and comprehensive dental hygiene examinations, including oral cancer screenings and periodontal assessments
- Provide prophylaxis, scaling, and root planing procedures for pediatric and adult patients
- Apply preventive treatments such as fluoride varnish, sealants, and antimicrobial agents
- Educate patients on proper oral hygiene techniques, nutritional guidance, and disease prevention strategies
- Document patient assessments, treatment plans, and clinical notes accurately in the electronic health record
- Collaborate with the dental team — including general dentists and dental assistants — to coordinate patient care and treatment sequencing
- Support a high-volume, community-health-focused clinic environment, maintaining compliance with infection control and safety standards
$162,240 - $166,400 a year
Qualifications- Active, unrestricted license to practice as a Dental Hygienist
- Graduate of an accredited dental hygiene program (Associate's or Bachelor's degree)
- Current CPR/BLS certification
- Demonstrated ability to perform the full scope of dental hygiene clinical services independently
- Proficiency with electronic health records and standard dental software
- Ability to work on-site at the Sisseton, SD facility for scheduled clinic hours
- Prior experience providing dental hygiene services in a federally qualified health center, tribal clinic, or Indian Health Service facility
- Familiarity with the oral health challenges and preventive care priorities of Native American or rural underserved populations
- Experience with high-volume clinic workflows and the ability to manage a full patient schedule efficiently
- Additional certifications such as local anesthesia administration or expanded function dental auxiliary (EFDA) credentials
- Bilingual or culturally responsive communication skills relevant to the patient community served
