Akicita Federal is hiring a Dental Assistant to deliver essential oral healthcare support to patients served by the Indian Health Service at the Woodrow Wilson Keeble Memorial Health Care Center in Sisseton, South Dakota. In this role, you will work alongside General Dentists and Dental Hygienists to ensure patients receive high-quality, culturally meaningful dental care in a community-focused clinical setting. This is a full-time, on-site position with a one-year period of performance and options to extend.
Responsibilities- Prepare and maintain dental treatment rooms, instruments, and equipment between patient visits to ensure a clean, safe, and fully stocked operatory
- Assist the dentist chairside during examinations, restorations, extractions, and other dental procedures by passing instruments and materials
- Take and develop dental radiographs (X-rays) in accordance with clinical protocols and safety standards
- Record patient medical histories, treatment notes, and clinical findings accurately in the electronic health record system
- Provide patients with post-procedure care instructions and support patient education on oral hygiene practices
- Sterilize and maintain dental instruments following infection control guidelines and regulatory requirements
- Coordinate with front-office and clinical staff to support smooth patient flow and scheduling throughout the clinic day
$64,480 - $68,640 a year
Qualifications- Demonstrated experience working as a Dental Assistant in a clinical dental setting
- Completion of a dental assisting program or equivalent hands-on clinical training
- Current, valid Dental Assistant certification or licensure as required by the state of South Dakota
- Proficiency in chairside assistance, dental radiography, and infection control procedures
- Ability to accurately document clinical information in an electronic health record system
- Ability to perform work on-site in Sisseton, South Dakota for the duration of the engagement
- Prior experience providing dental care within an Indian Health Service, Tribal, or other federal healthcare facility
- Familiarity with the cultural backgrounds and healthcare needs of Native American and Indigenous communities
- Certification as a Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) through the Dental Assisting National Board (DANB)
- Experience with the electronic dental health records systems commonly used in federal or IHS clinic environments
- Bilingual skills or demonstrated experience working with underserved or rural patient populations
