Responsible for planning and implementing instruction according to state adopted curriculum content standards, using Todd County School District approved curriculum.
Qualifications/Basic
Job Requirements:
- Valid South Dakota Teaching Certificate or ability to obtain certification by September 30th of the contracted school year.
- Technology skills - computer, iPad, Tablet and related software.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Use District approved curriculum to plan lessons each week. Submit lesson plans weekly to building administrator using administrator approved format.
- Use effective instructional strategies that are aligned to the District's goals, mission, vision and guiding principles.
- Plan instruction that is engaging and at the student's developmentally appropriate level.
- Establishes routines and procedures in the classroom for effective classroom management.
- Provide individual and small group instruction to meet student individual academic, social and emotional needs.
- Teach and reinforce emotional and social skills that are developmentally appropriate.
- Maintain a classroom environment that is clean, orderly, inviting and free of clutter.
- Maintain confidentiality of student records and information about students and their families.
- Maintain student records, including attendance, behavior, assessments and grades in a timely manner and in accordance with the direction of the building administrator.
- Maintain a high level of ethical behavior.
- Participate in all family nights, programs, and extra-curricular activities at the school as assigned by the building administrator.
- Plan and coordinate the work of paraprofessionals, parents and volunteers in the classroom and on field trips.
- Identify student needs, make appropriate referrals and follow student Individualized Educational Plans.
- Maintain student discipline in the classroom that is conducive to learning. Use District approved discipline strategies and resources.
- Communicate consistently, respectfully and professionally with parents/guardians and as directed by building administrator.
- Monitor student progress.
- Supervise students at lunch, recess, hallways and other areas as assigned by building administrator.
- Other duties as assigned.
Other Functions:
- Supervise students during emergency drills, assemblies, play periods, and field trips. The teacher is continuously responsible for the safety, well-being and work output of students.
- Professionally and respectfully participate in District and school provided professional development.
- Implement instructional strategies provided through professional development.
- Collaborate respectfully and professionally with colleagues and all staff.
- Follow all District policies and the SD Teacher Code of Ethics.
- Maintain appropriate certification for teaching position.
