Position: Program Assistant II (4-H Educator)
Location: Wessington Springs

South Dakota State University (SDSU) Extension 4‑H Programs is seeking a collaborative, people-focused professional to mentor and guide youth in Wessington Springs and Woonsocket, South Dakota.

Position Overview

This role supports 4‑H Youth Development by delivering research-based information, resources, education, leadership, and support to meet the needs of county and reservation youth, while building relationships to advance the mission of SDSU Extension.

Responsibilities

Provide timely 4‑H Youth Development research‑based information, resources, education, leadership and support to meet the needs of youth in the county and/or reservation while building relationships to enhance and carry out the mission of SDSU Extension.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of:

  • Computer systems and software (e.g., MS Word, Outlook, Excel);
  • Planning, teaching, and evaluating educational programs for a variety of youth audiences; and
  • Supervisory techniques.

Skill & Ability to:

  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and excellent verbal communication skills;
  • Demonstrated organizational and time management skills;
  • Work as a contributing member of a team;
  • Plan events and manage a budget; and
  • Collaborate on funding proposals or grants to support new and/or enhanced programming.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Child, Youth, or Human Development, or other relevant fields with relevant youth development experience;
  • Previous 4‑H or similar youth development experience;
  • Demonstrated use of technology in managing and/or delivering educational programs;
  • Experience in publishing materials and/or curricula.
Required License

Valid driver’s license.

Employment Eligibility and Policies

Must be authorized to work in the U.S.;
Sponsorship is not available. Any offer of employment is contingent upon verification of credentials and completion of a criminal background check. This position is subject to South Dakota State University’s Drug and Alcohol Testing Policy 4:14.
