Lead Engineer – Product Safety

An opportunity has arisen for a Lead Engineer – Product Safety to join the Product Safety & Compliance department in a rapidly expanding and exciting work environment.

Working at the forefront of technology, you’ll be ensuring that safety is at the heart of the design and development of cutting‑edge products.

• Technically lead a small group of engineers to deliver safety analysis activities for components & systems in accordance with customer and project targets.
• Work in collaboration with mechanical, electrical, and software teams to ensure that all systems are demonstrably safe and reliable.
• Undertaking reliability estimations and safety analysis activities such as Design Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (DFMEA), Hazard Identification (HAZID), Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), and Fault Tree Assessments (FTA) among others.
• Lead the development of safety requirements as needed for systems to ensure that all systems are capable of achieving the safety targets and required safety integrity levels.
• Lead the development of safety plans in accordance with IEC
  61508 and other industry standards, creating safety goals, and building safety cases for electrical power systems.
• Preparation and presentation of reports for internal and external audiences.
• Support technical and project reviews with the customer, representing FZero, as required.
• Support outsourcing work packages where capacity vs capability requires to ensure delivery of projects.
• Develop process, system and way of working within their team, or as a part of a wider working group.
• Aid Business Units with business development opportunities where requested, including client meetings, feasibility work, tender and costing support.

• An engineering qualification in a STEM subject or equivalent e.g. HND, Bachelor’s / Master’s Degree, Apprenticeship) and previous experience in Functional or System Safety.
• Experience applying IEC
  61508 or any of its derivatives such as ISO
  26262 (automotive), ARP
  4754 and ARP
  4761 (aerospace), ISO
  61511 (Process Industry), EN50126/8/9 (rolling stock), ISO
  13849 (machinery control systems), ISO
  19014 (Earth Moving Machinery) etc. to development programmes
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• A proactive, ‘can‑do’ attitude, willing to support and collaborate with other team members and engineering functions.
• A passion for improving sustainability through the development of cutting‑edge technical solutions.
• An understanding of energy storage systems, power conversion products, and/or electronic control units is desirable.

Our typical hybrid roles at Fortescue Zero require 3 days in the office and 2 from home, making the ability to commute to the stated office location for the required days essential.
