The Associate Community Banker delivers personalized client service by holding financial conversations with clients and prospects to determine their needs and provide appropriate solutions. This position is responsible for maintaining client relationships, with emphasis on First Interstate Bank’s Service Commitments and in accordance with our vision and values.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Delivers personalized client service in person and over the phone by answering questions, assisting with issues, and offering solutions.
- Opens and maintains a variety of products, including consumer and basic business checking and savings accounts, Individual Retirement Accounts, Certificates of Deposit, consumer credit cards, and more.
- Performs teller duties, conducting a variety of financial transactions such as check cashing, deposits, withdrawals, loan payments, and accurately counting currency and coin.
- May engage in conversations about and process new consumer loan requests.
- Holds financial conversations with clients and prospects to determine needs and provide appropriate solutions.
- Identifies referral opportunities to other lines of business—including, but not limited to, Home Loans, Treasury Solutions, Merchant Services, Business Banking, and Wealth Management—consistently utilizing 360 View to document referrals and other client activity.
- Builds client relationships through proactive outreach and follow‑up.
- Completes work accurately with minimal errors.
- Participates in volunteer activities and financial education efforts.
- Stays current on regulatory changes and demonstrates compliance with all bank regulations, policies, and procedures related to assigned job functions; knowledge may be gained through coursework and on‑the‑job training.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow verbal and written instructions while maintaining confidentiality.
- Uses tact and diplomacy effectively when interacting with clients and coworkers.
- Possesses working knowledge of personal computers, Microsoft programs, and strong 10‑key skills.
- Maintains working knowledge of digital platforms, CRM systems, and emerging technologies.
- Able to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos; able to write simple correspondence.
- Able to effectively present information in one‑on‑one and small‑group situations.
- Strong basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages, rates).
- Demonstrates timely completion of work and adjusts to workload demands to meet expected deadlines.
- Produces complete and accurate work, displaying pride and professionalism.
- Takes personal initiative and serves as a positive example for others to follow.
High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required. Banking or related experience required.
Licenses and CertificationsRegistered Mortgage Loan Originator per the SAFE Act preferred.
Physical Demands and Working Environment- Dexterity of hands/fingers to operate computer keyboard and mouse.
- Frequently handling, hearing, talking, walking, and sitting.
- Occasionally lifting (up to 25 lbs).
- Occasionally standing; noise level moderate.
- Typical work hours vary based on scheduling and business need; regular and predictable attendance required.
- Travel as needed.
