Department Details: Join a dedicated, close-knit therapy team in a newly renovated skilled nursing facility. We're looking for an Occupational Therapist who thrives in a collaborative environment and is committed to making a meaningful impact in patient care.
Job Summary: Assesses clients, patients, and residents and designs occupational therapy treatments. Helps clients develop, maintain, and recover their ability to perform tasks in their daily occupations. The therapist conducts evaluations and provides interventions for clients with functional, cognitive, or behavioral impairments. Evaluates physical, cognitive, developmental, and psychosocial abilities; develops realistic therapy goals and administers appropriate programs. Documents information for evaluation, establishes therapeutic plans, and modifies them if necessary.
Provides education designed to enhance understanding and improve functional outcomes. Demonstrates knowledge of current research in daily treatment.
May treat individuals of all ages with varying diagnoses and disorders. Demonstrates documentation in accordance with departmental guidelines and meets all regulatory requirements. Exhibits flexibility with variable work schedules. Participates in activities to promote the department, Good Samaritan Society, and Sanford Health. Interacts with providers, case managers, family members, third party payers, public organizations, and others. May supervise assistants, aides, and students and provide ongoing education and training to peers.
Performs other related duties as requested by manager. Work may focus on post‑acute, long‑term care, and home health environments.
- Appropriate education level requiring state licensure.
- Must be licensed as an Occupational Therapist in the state(s) of practice.
- When working at a Sanford Health Facility (preferred for GSS Facilities): also certified through the National Board of Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT).
- May require a valid driver's license.
- Obtains and maintains required department‑specific competencies and certifications.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) for health care providers required or obtained within the first 60 days of employment.
- In South Dakota and Iowa, new graduates in the process of testing with the board will be considered with a temporary license.
