About the Position

As a Certified Substance Abuse Counselor III
, you will support the community by delivering face‑to‑face rehabilitative programming services provided in the Integrated Substance Use Disorder Treatment Program (ISUDTP).

  • On‑site in a state prison
What You Will Do
  • Deliver treatment programming services to participants and conduct group and/or individual sessions.
  • Effectively implement scheduled program curriculum. Lead and participate in face‑to‑face group and individual meetings utilizing motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy and other therapeutic processes.
  • Engage participants daily, reinforce group rules and expectations for participation and completion.
  • Work directly with participants to develop and implement treatment/action plans and educate participants about supportive networks as they return to the community.
  • Review treatment plans, evaluate and record treatment progress, record visible changes in appearance, behavior and demeanor of program participants.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential participant records. Evaluate and document the progress of participants assigned to your groups.
  • Complete all delivery documentation requirements. Summarize participants’ background, treatment plan, and recovery process outcomes.
  • Prepare accurate, concise, informative reports, records and plans that are consistent with Amity standards and comply with applicable clinical and administrative rules.
  • Liaise with transition/reentry staff, plan and prepare transitional documents as directed by CDCR for continued community program activities.
  • May mentor Counselors I and II Level AOD Counselors/OMCP Mentors.
  • Work collaboratively with CDCR, DRP, CCHCS and institution staff. Support and collaborate with co‑faculty, including but not limited to Supervisors, Directors and Regional Directors.
  • Participate in monthly, block, cross‑training, curriculum training, technical assistance training, or other training as appropriate.
  • Other duties as assigned.
What You Will Bring
  • A Master’s Degree in a social service‑related field; and Licensed by, or registered with, the Board of Behavioral Sciences; or Registered with an AOD certifying organization recognized by DHCS;
    OR
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in a social service‑related field, AOD certified, and six (6) months of experience providing SUDT services as a certified AOD Counselor;
    OR
  • An Associate’s Degree in social service‑related field, AOD certified, and one (1) year of experience providing SUDT services as a certified AOD Counselor;
    OR
  • AOD certified and more than two (2) years of experience providing SUDT services as a certified AOD Counselor.
  • An understanding of causes, symptoms, and effects of substance abuse; appreciation for the behavioral, psychological, physical, and social effects of drug abuse.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written communications, and typing skills.
  • Operational knowledge of MS Office Suite and ARMS (preferred).
  • Ability to maintain sensitivity and objectivity under pressures generated by association with substance abuse treatment participants.
  • Demonstrate ethical behavior in order to maintain professional standards and safeguard the participant.
  • Protect and maintain program participants’ health, safety, welfare, and confidentiality of records and participant information.

Salary: $32.55 per hour
Non‑Exempt position hourly wage: $32.55/hr
