- Clinical performance utilizes a progressive effort to provide patient care.
- Completes requirements for department‑specific education as evidenced by successful completion of required classes, and by documentation, observation, and feedback.
- Demonstrates the ability to apply cardiac monitor to a patient correctly.
- Recognizes an emergency and initiates appropriate response, as evidenced by documentation and observation.
- Performs procedures and treatments according to EMS standards and department protocols as evidenced by documentation and observation.
- Positively supports and contributes to departmental development as evidenced by participating in meetings and training.
- All other duties as assigned.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification from the American Heart Association within 60 days of hire or transfer.
- Driver's License from the state.
- EMT Certificate from the South Dakota Board of Medical and Osteopathic Examiners within 90 days of hire.
- Ambulance Driver Certification from the South Dakota Board of Medical and Osteopathic Examiners.
Preferred:
- 1+ years of Emergency Medical Technician experience.
- Advanced EMT Certificate from the South Dakota Board of Medical and Osteopathic Examiners.
Requires ability to work assigned schedules and hours as determined by the department.
Physical RequirementsVery heavy work – exerting over 25 pounds of force constantly (67‑100% of the time), and/or more than 50 pounds frequently (34‑66% of the time), and/or more than 100 pounds of force occasionally (up to 33% of the time), and/or more than 100 pounds of force seldomly to move objects. Possible exposure to radiation and frequent exposure to contaminated needles and infectious body substances.

Starting Pay Rate Range: $18.38 - $21.13 (determined by the knowledge, skills, and experience of the applicant.)
