Role Overview: The Medication Assistant (MA) delivers resident-centered nursing care and daily living assistance under supervision. Responsibilities include providing age-appropriate care such as bathing, grooming, dressing, recording vital signs, and offering psycho-social support. The MA assists with transfers, mobility, and range-of-motion exercises, aids in meal preparation and dining, and may help with feeding and hydration. They administer prescribed medications within their scope, document care outcomes, communicate changes in condition, and collect non-invasive specimens.
The role also involves housekeeping, laundry, and supporting wellness and recreational activities, encouraging resident participation.
Qualifications and Skills: A high school diploma or GED is preferred. Prior clinical or nursing assistant experience, especially in long-term care, is advantageous. Certification requirements vary by state, including CNA and Medication Aide certifications, with ongoing competency testing and continuing education (minimum 12 hours annually). Valid driver’s license and auto insurance may be required.
