Location: Canton

Johnson Feed, Inc., a family-owned transportation company based in Canton, South Dakota, is seeking an experienced, highly organized professional to join our Operations team as a Dispatcher
. This is a critical role within our operation, responsible for coordinating freight, supporting our drivers, and delivering exceptional service to our customers.

We're looking for someone who brings strong transferable operational, coordination, or logistics experience and has demonstrated success managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. While previous dispatch experience is beneficial, we welcome candidates whose background has equipped them with the communication, decision-making, and organizational skills needed to excel in this role.

What You’ll Do

As a Dispatcher, you will serve as a key communication hub between drivers, customers, and internal departments to ensure freight moves safely, efficiently, and on schedule.

Responsibilities include:

  • Coordinate daily freight movements and delivery schedules while maximizing operational efficiency.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with drivers, customers, and internal departments.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for drivers by providing direction, resolving issues, and communicating operational updates.
  • Monitor driver availability, home time, hours of service, and time-off requests while balancing customer needs.
  • Proactively identify and resolve scheduling conflicts, service disruptions, and operational challenges.
  • Work collaboratively with the Operations team to meet customer expectations and company performance goals.
  • Utilize transportation software, GPS technology, and other business systems to manage day-to-day operations.
  • Maintain accurate records and ensure timely communication regarding freight movement and customer service.
What We're Looking For

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience coordinating people, schedules, or operations in a fast-paced environment and possess the ability to make sound decisions under pressure.

Qualifications include:
  • Previous experience in dispatching, transportation, logistics, operations, customer service, manufacturing, agriculture, construction, emergency services, military operations, or another role requiring strong coordination and decision-making.
  • Exceptional communication and relationship-building skills with the ability to work effectively with customers, drivers, and team members.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize competing demands and adapt quickly as situations change.
  • Proven ability to solve problems, think critically, and make informed decisions in a time-sensitive environment.
  • High level of computer proficiency, including experience learning and utilizing multiple software platforms.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to maintain accuracy while managing multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Professional, dependable, and customer-focused with a strong sense of urgency and accountability.
  • Transportation or trucking industry experience is preferred but not required for candidates with highly transferable experience.
Schedule
  • Monday-Friday during normal business hours (in-office)
  • Partial day every sixth Saturday

From $25.00 - $32.00 per hour
