Railcar Cleaning and Repair Position
Night Shift: Monday - Thursday 1:30pm - 12:00am
Night Shift Includes additional 10% shift differential pay
In this position, an individual will perform all duties related to cleaning railcars and/or repairing railcars according to specifications. This work includes but is not limited to hazardous tank cars and food grade hauling pressure differentials. The work will be performed while under the guidance of a foreman/supervisor, lead person.
RequirementsEducation:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Previous railcar cleaning experience and/or training helpful.
Other requirements:
- Individuals must pass a pre-employment drug test.
- Individuals must complete and pass a post-offer, pre-employment respirator fit test/physical.
- During the first 90 days of employment, the employee will receive a 30, 60 and 90 day review; given by their supervisor.
- Employee will receive study guides upon hire and will complete a written test at 30, 60 and 90 days. The employee is expected to successfully complete each of the tests.
- Ability to perform washing of railcars with a high-pressure wash system, within a cleaning facility, employing a spent media recovery system.
- Ability to perform the necessary cleaning of a railcar while wearing protective suiting and/or respirator.
- Ability to safely handle and remove non-hazardous/hazardous material from various containers, in compliance with 40 CFR Parts 260 to 265.
- Proficient at using a variety of tools including but not limited to pneumatic/hydraulic tools, torque wrenches, welders, grinders,
- Ability to complete minor repairs to railcars according to specifications using various tools and procedures including but not limited to metal working, mechanical and welding.
- Ability to complete removal of dust contamination and commodity removal from a railcar and/or complete corrosion inspections inside a railcar.
- Ability to clean the wash facility and maintain recovery system.
- Ability to read and interpret documents including but not limited to work orders, operating procedures, safety rules.
- Ability to follow directions whether written or oral.
- Ability to operate yard vehicles in a safe manner. Yard vehicles to include bobcat, forklift and scissor lift.
- Ability to climb and work at heights of 14 feet or more to complete the cleaning process.
- Ability to work in confined spaces that may require but not limited to crawling, bending, twisting, reaching, lifting/lowering, pushing/pulling.
- Regular, reliable attendance and punctuality
- Ability to work in varying temperatures within the building and inside a railcar.
- Other duties as assigned.

- Body Positions:
Sitting, standing, stooping, kneeling, lying on back or front, working in confined spaces and working at heights of 14 feet or more. - Body Movements:
Walking, crawling, turning of head and body, bending, twisting, reaching, lifting/lowering, pushing/pulling. - Torso, arms and fingers. Lifting up to 75 pounds occasionally, with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Assisted lifting (human or mechanical) 75 pounds to 100 pounds, climbing, gripping/grasping, pulling, pushing, reaching.
- Reports to Foreman/Supervisor, Lead Person
- This job has no supervisory responsibilities. Individual may be asked to assist in the training of new employees.
- On-the-job training and constructive feedback provided.
- Continuing education and training on company and rail industry standards and procedures.
- Work is performed inside the clean facility as well as outside. Inside temperatures will vary throughout the seasons.
- Each employee is required to provide their own safety toed boots. Boots must be above the ankle and composed of leather, with no mesh.
