Lead – Robotics & Manufacturing Automation
Cypress Industries India Pvt. Ltd. is looking for a highly hands‑on Robotics & Manufacturing Automation Lead to help transform our wiring harness manufacturing operations from conventional production methods toward highly automated and, wherever technically and commercially feasible, fully robotic manufacturing.
This is not a maintenance automation role and it is not purely a robot‑programming position.
We are looking for an engineer who can first deeply understand how a wiring harness is manufactured
, study our existing production processes on the shop floor, identify the limitations of conventional manufacturing, and then redesign those processes using robotics, machine automation, vision systems, servo systems, intelligent fixtures and other automation technologies.
The objective is not simply to install robots. The objective is to redesign the manufacturing process around automation.
The Successful Candidate Will Be Expected To Determine Where
- 100% automation is technically possible
- Semi‑automation provides better economics
- Cobots are more suitable than traditional robots
- Dedicated special‑purpose machinery is more appropriate than robots
- Vision systems can eliminate manual inspection
- Fixtures and tooling should be redesigned
- Material presentation must change to enable automation
- Product or process design should be modified for automation
- Manual processes should remain manual because automation does not provide sufficient ROI
This person will have significant freedom to challenge our existing manufacturing methods and develop the automation architecture for the next generation of our factories.
Key Responsibilities- Understand the Complete Wiring Harness Manufacturing Process
Study our existing production operations in detail, including processes such as:
- Wire cutting
- Wire stripping
- Cable stripping
- Seal insertion
- Terminal crimping
- Ferrule crimping
- Wire twisting
- Wire preparation
- Soldering where applicable
- Ultrasonic wire splicing/welding
- Heat‑shrink application
- Connector loading
- Terminal insertion
- Terminal locking verification
- Wire routing
- Harness‑board assembly
- Branch formation
- Taping
- Sleeving
- Braiding
- Cable‑tie installation
- Clip and accessory installation
- Label printing and application
- Continuity testing
- Electrical testing
- Hi‑pot / insulation testing where applicable
- Vision inspection
- Dimensional inspection
- Final inspection
- Packaging and material handling
Understand the interaction between operators, machines, fixtures, materials, terminals, connectors, tooling and quality controls throughout the process.
Create Our Automation RoadmapPerform a detailed process‑by‑process automation assessment of the factory.
Classify Manufacturing Operations As
Manual → Assisted → Semi‑Automatic → Fully Automatic → Robotic
Develop a Phased Automation Roadmap Covering
- Phase 1 – Immediate low‑cost automation and operator productivity improvements.
- Phase 2 – Semi‑automatic machinery, intelligent fixtures, poka‑yoke and machine vision.
- Phase 3 – Robotic and cobot‑based manufacturing cells.
- Phase 4 – Highly automated production lines with automated material movement, testing, inspection and production traceability.
For Each Automation Project, Prepare
- Technical concept
- Current cycle time
- Target cycle time
- Manpower reduction
- Expected throughput
- Quality improvement
- Estimated investment
- Expected savings
- Payback period
- Implementation timeline
- Technical risks
- Design Robotic Manufacturing Solutions
Develop and implement robotic and automated solutions using technologies such as:
- 6‑axis industrial robots
