Job SummaryThe Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides professional nursing care for residents of all ages in long‑term care, under the supervision of a registered nurse, advanced practice provider, or physician. The LPN demonstrates knowledge of nursing principles for the resident, practices within the full scope of nursing expertise, and utilizes age‑ and population‑specific standards related to the physical and psychosocial needs of the resident as per the care plan.
The LPN performs testing to evaluate data reflective of the resident’s status and provides the necessary care. The LPN recognizes problems, recommends solutions, and responds effectively to assist in emergent situations.
The LPN ensures the health, comfort, and safety of residents; contributes to resident assessment; administers medications or treatments as ordered; provides technical support to healthcare professionals; documents resident interactions and outcomes related to resident care, medication, behavior, activity, and diet; and establishes effective working relationships with residents, health‑care providers, and the public. The LPN works effectively as part of an interdisciplinary care team, communicates clearly, maintains confidentiality of sensitive information, and counsels residents, family members, or resident advocates under the direction of a registered nurse, advanced practice provider, or physician on prevention and treatment plans.
The LPN also develops self‑care programs and performs other related duties as assigned.
- Graduate from an accredited practical nursing program as a Licensed Practical Nurse; an associate degree in practical nursing is preferred.
- If the position requires IV therapy/management skills, graduates must have completed a Board‑approved AASPN program where IV therapy is part of the curriculum or an IV Therapy course approved by the North Dakota Board of Nursing.
- Must have attended a pre‑licensure nursing program that included supervised clinical experience across the lifespan as part of the curriculum or have at least 400 hours of experience as an LPN at another facility.
- Currently holds an unencumbered Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license with the State Nursing Board and/or possesses multi‑state licensure privileges.
- Obtains and subsequently maintains required department‑specific competencies and certifications; completes required annual continuing education units (CEU) and competency training requirements of the department and facility.
