Job Summary
The Nursing Assistant (NA) serves as caregiver to the resident during the scheduled work period in long‑term care, providing resident‑centered nursing care and daily living assistance under the supervision of a registered nurse (RN).
Responsibilities- Deliver age‑appropriate care related to the physical and psychological needs of the resident as per the care plan.
- Follow infection prevention and control policies and properly use personal protective equipment.
- Assist with basic health‑care needs, including bathing, toileting, grooming, dressing, vital‑sign recording, and psychosocial support.
- Help residents transfer, reposition, and walk using correct techniques and equipment, and provide range‑of‑motion and passive exercises.
- Complete food‑preparation and dining tasks, creating a positive dining experience; assist with meals, snacks, water, and supplements.
- Aid providers and nursing staff with procedures, when needed.
- Document resident interactions, care outcomes, behavior, activity, and dietary information.
- Communicate changes in the resident’s condition and care concerns to the charge nurse.
- Collect non‑invasive body‑fluid specimens and record vital signs.
- Provide housekeeping and laundry services to maintain resident living areas.
- Assist with wellness and recreational programs, encouraging resident participation.
- May participate in departmental or organizational committees and task forces as needed.
- High school graduate or GED (preferred; not required).
- Minimum age 16.
- Prior clinical or nursing‑assistant experience in long‑term care preferred.
- Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification with the State Board of Nursing, or state‑certified CNA within four months of start date, or enrollment in a training program.
- CNA training and certification provided by the facility.
- Complete yearly department‑specific competency testing and maintain a record of continuing‑education credits (minimum 12 hours annually).
- Maintain all department‑specific certifications.
- Certified and registered with the Unlicensed Assistive Person (UAP) Registry where applicable.
- Depending on facility duties, may require classification as a Sanford Category II Driver, including a valid driver’s license, motor‑vehicle report, and medical qualification to perform essential driving functions.
